A nine-day journey along the Teslin River and part of the Yukon River, surrounded by untouched wilderness and breathtaking landscapes. This route, suitable for everyone, even without advanced canoeing experience, offers a unique opportunity to discover the unspoiled territory of the Yukon. It’s an experience reminiscent of the days of fur traders and gold prospectors. Along the banks of the Teslin, which flows through the territory of the Teslin Tlingit First Nation, you’ll have the chance to spot moose, eagles, and black bears in their natural habitats—a rare and authentic encounter with wildlife that this journey offers.
The adventure is organized to ensure safety and comfort, starting with an initial briefing on gear and paddling techniques aboard traditional Canadian canoes. The trip also includes van transfers from the starting point to the end, ensuring a stress-free experience. Whitehorse, the capital of Yukon, will be both your starting and ending point—a perfect base to explore the wild North and take home unforgettable memories.
During the journey, you’ll camp in wild, remote areas surrounded by pristine nature, far from modern-day chaos. Evenings will be spent around the fire, the heart of the campsite, where you’ll prepare delicious meals and relive the day’s emotions. The crackling flames and Yukon’s starlit sky will create a magical atmosphere for moments of sharing and reflection, as the sunset paints the landscape in vivid hues.
Each morning, you'll set out into stunning scenery and another day on the calm waters of the Teslin River, fully immersed in the silence and beauty of Yukon’s wild nature—a journey that will enrich the soul of every adventurer.

Itinerario

DAY 1

Transfer to Johnson's Crossing, the adventure begins

After breakfast, we will be picked up by our driver and taken to our destination, Johnson's Crossing. Here we will load the canoes, review paddling techniques and safety regulations, and begin our paddle towards Little Salmon, where we will finish on day 9. Today we will cover between 21 and 25 km, probably camping at Henry Isle.

DAY 2

Mary River

One of the most beautiful campsites on the river is located at the confluence of the Mary River. We will try to make this our campsite for the night..

DAY 3

Roaring Bull Rapids

The increased flow from the Boswell, Swift and Indian rivers causes more gravel banks and islands to appear. The river valley widens and argillites with characteristic eroded formations called hoodoos become more frequent. It is in this stretch of river that we will experience the "Roaring Bull Rapids". Apart from a bit of "adrenaline", the rapids are neither technical nor dangerous.

DAY 4

Roaring Bull Rapids - Hoodoos (o High-Water)

Today's route includes a mix of stretches with slow water and stretches with "faster" water.

DAY 5

From Hoodoo to "Battleship Island"

Today's journey to Battleship Island allows us to leave early from Hootalinqua to find a good place to camp.

DAY 6

From Battleship Island to Hootalinqua

This is a short day, so breakfast will be a bit longer, but we will embark early enough to arrive early at Hootalinqua. At Hootalinqua, there is a steep hike behind the camp with a magnificent view of the confluence of the Teslin and Yukon rivers.

DAY 7

From Hootalinqua to the Big Salmon River area

Today we move towards the Yukon River, which has an overall faster current and some historic stretches. We will stop to see the remains of the steamboat "Evelyn" before continuing to the Big Salmon area.

DAY 8

From Big Salmon to Twin Creeks

This is the last full day of paddling on the river. We will stop at Twin Creeks after a full day of easy paddling.

DAY 9

From Twin Creeks to Little Salmon and transfer to Whitehorse

Our paddling will continue beyond the confluence of the Little Salmon and Yukon rivers to our landing point just beyond Little Salmon. Once all canoes and equipment are tidied and stowed, we will take a 3-hour trip back to Whitehorse, with a stop in Carmacks. Plan for a shower and dinner together at a local restaurant, to share the river experience before saying goodbye.
